Find of the Week...

Thanks to Sal for the find!

Stereomood is a website designed with music junkies in mind. The site functions according to mood, divided into categories like "Sexy", "Chillout", "Bohemien", "Let's Party", "Gangsta", "Roadtrip" and so on, so users can simply click whatever they're feeling like and be introduced to a carefully thought out playlist of hundreds of new and old songs alike. Two birds with one stone - not only does this ease the hassle of sifting through YouTube and your iTunes searching for different songs and creating your own playlists, but it also introduces you to a whole avalanche of new music. This is a spectacular idea for the music scene and beats pop radio by miles. Check it out here!

The Tron Shoes..

Talk about good publicity - to create a buzz in the fashion world for the opening of Tron: Legacy, Disney asked Canadian designer Jerome C. Rousseau to create a Tron inspired shoe. And create he did:

The shoe comes in pewter and gold and will be available in February, retailing for a heartbreaking $795. The futuristic feel of the film and Quorra - played by the stunning Olivia Wilde - were the inspirations for Rousseau's shoe. Rousseau has designed his Spring 2011 collection around the original Tron, stating that: “In keeping with my label’s strengths, I created a style that is distinctive and strong, like the architectural nature of Tron, yet anchored in feminine lines and luxurious constructions."

How did the collabo come about? Disney, being the powerhouse that they are, appealed to fashion in more than one way to promote the film. Disney called on Balenciaga and Versace to design women's and menswear lines, respectively, with a Tron feel to them, and decided even those two heavy hitters weren't enough for the type of futuristic bang they wanted.

“When we first were given Tron to work a consumer prospective from, the edgy, high-tech aspect immediately inspired me to do something different—since we were not appealing to children or tweens, it was an enticing challenge and I immediately started looking for unusual suspects, and that’s when I  came across an article on Jerome C. Rousseau,” explains Stephanie Kraus, VP Global Creative at Disney Consumer Products. Talk about right place at the right time - that article led to Jerome C. Rousseau creating one of the most talked about items of the season. Rousseau, Canadian bred but based out of LA, was given creative free rein and shown clips of the new film for fresh inspiration.

"I didn’t want to make something gimmicky. I wanted it to be something women wanted to wear, not just a salute to Tron—something that conveyed the mood and cool modernity of Tron without falling into a trap of a contrived design.”

So, ladies, did he succeed? I'd love to see these babies on, so if anyone wants to buy a pair and send em my way....

Ain't Nothing to Talk About..

Want of the Week

For some reason, the Want of the Week is nearly always a watch. Watches are the perfect accessory - a classic silver band for a bit of class and wealth, a narrow band with a white square face for a modern take on the classic, a vintage man's watch on a slender female wrist for a statement about your attitude and independence; a colored band and futuristic face as an accessory to your outfit. Whatever the case, watches are a staple in any man and any woman's wardrobe.

Today we give you two of Nixon's finest: the Debutante and the Chalet. The Debutante is way out of our price range but is still rather nice to look at..

GQ Style Yearbook

As 2010 draws to a close, GQ has compiled a little yearbook of men's fashion. It's not only very cute and well-done, but also gives you boys a number of hints as to what to wear. The men, for the most part, look dashing and suave and all that jazz, and ladies everywhere would appreciate it if you began dressing like this too...

No pressure or anything, though you will lose out on all the babes...

I actually think Lenny looks quite good..

What's with Katie and her stylish boyfriends? Johnny Depp, Pete Doherty...

The Warhol Burglary

Interesting news in the art world, reminiscent of the old cat burglar/diamond thief films.. A burglary in Manhattan has resulted in the theft of some of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein's last works. They were stolen from the home of a beef fortune heir and art collector, Robert Romanoff. Check out the article - would make a great idea for a film...

NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities are ramping up their effort to solve a Manhattan mystery: Who drilled a hole into the home of a beef fortune heir and stole a collection of iconic artworks by Roy Lichtenstein  and Andy Warhol?

The culprits also made off with surveillance video footage that might have caught them in the act.
The New York Police Department released images of the art on Thursday, hoping someone might help solve last month's crime in the trendy Meatpacking District by recognizing works like a well-known Lichtenstein print called "Thinking Nude."

Authorities estimate the five-story apartment was burglarized sometime during Thanksgiving week, when owner and art collector Robert Romanoff was away. Also taken from the building was a Lichtenstein print called "Moonscape," the Carl Fudge oil painting "Live Cat," the Warhol prints "The Truck" and "Superman," and a set of eight signed Warhol prints from 1986 called "Camouflage." They're among the artist's last works before his death the following year. Authorities estimate the artworks, plus stolen Cartier and Rolex watches and other jewelry, are worth about $750,000.

Police say the thief drilled a hole through the wall of a hallway sometime between Nov. 24 and 28.
Lichtenstein, who died in 1997, created "Thinking Nude" in 1994 — one of 40 limited-edition works that are part of his "Nudes" series based on comic-book illustrations. A similar print recently sold for about $85,000 at Christie's, according to the auction house's website. Warhol's "Superman" print is part of his 1980s "Myths" series featuring fictional characters with mass-cultural appeal, including Mickey Mouse and Uncle Sam.

Romanoff is heir to a beef company fortune that started as a New York City meat store opened by his immigrant relatives in 1905. He's now president of the New Jersey-based Nebraska Meat Corp., one of the country's biggest distributors of smoked meat that for years owned property in the Meatpacking District.

I smell a little funny business...

Merry Christmas!

The Studio has been on hiatus for the last day or two because Christmas lived up to its usual busy and hectic reputation.. We hope you all enjoyed a very merry Christmas and for those who don't celebrate it, we hope the holidays are treating you well. All the best for 2011 to all of you!

Love,

The Studio

(Best Christmas movies? We watched The Santa Clause with Tim Allen and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, with Chevy Chase, both hilarious... Elf and Miracle on 34th Street may have sneaked in there as well.)
